43 dead, 37 missing as monsoon ravages Himachal, costing ₹5000 crore in damages
A businessman named Soumitra Roy was abducted from New Barrackpore, sparking panic in the area. According to sources, Roy had left home two days ago for business-related work but did not return. His family became concerned after receiving ransom calls and threatening text messages. The abductors initially demanded ₹5 lakh and later increased the ransom to ₹8 lakh.
Roy's wife filed a written complaint at New Barrackpore Police Station after receiving the ransom threats. Based on the complaint, police initiated an investigation and used technical surveillance to trace the accused. Their location was tracked to a residence in Salt Lake, where police launched a raid.
The police rescued Soumitra Roy from the house and arrested six individuals on the spot. According to police, Roy had visible injury marks and had been held captive for two days. During that period, he was allegedly physically assaulted and pressured to arrange the ransom amount.
All six arrested individuals are currently in custody. Police are questioning them to identify whether more people are connected to the abduction. Further investigation is underway to gather additional details and verify the complete timeline of the kidnapping.
